💙 The Destined Soulmate
When love is written in the stars, it will always find its way...
Chapter 1
Morning painted Northern Town in soft gold.
People stirred from their sleep — some over breakfast, others already heading
to work. The town wasn’t the largest in the country, nor the smallest, but it
had its own rhythm. Its own charm. It thrived quietly through trade and
visitors from the capital, nestled between technology and tradition.
Inside one such home, the Williamsons were gathered for breakfast. Laughter
clinked like spoons against china.
Mimi Williamson sat silently at the table as her mother placed a plate of warm
pancakes before her. Nineteen, sweet, and soft-spoken, Mimi often drifted into
thoughts while others talked. Her mind, that morning, was elsewhere.
She had graduated high school.
She was supposed to look for a job.
She was supposed to follow the path her parents had laid out.
But what if she didn’t want to? What if her life wasn’t supposed to be so...
predictable?
Today, however, wasn’t about jobs. Today, her destiny would be revealed.
The day when every nineteen-year-old girl found out who her soulmate was — a
long-standing tradition in their country. The name would be revealed publicly,
and from that point on, they were expected to date. Eventually marry. By the
age of twenty-two.
It was a rule Mimi never truly understood.
She tugged gently at her pale blue summer dress, looking at herself in the
mirror. It suited her well, bringing out the green of her eyes. But instead of
feeling pretty, she felt... small. Powerless.
“Why would anyone want me?” she whispered, then sighed, grabbing her small bag
before leaving the house.
The city garden was buzzing with excitement. People crowded around a massive
screen where the soulmates would be revealed. Mimi’s heart raced in her chest,
heavier with every step. She had barely arrived when someone called her name.
"Hey!! You’re so pretty today~"
It was Anna Jefferson, Mimi’s best friend. Blonde, bright, and always excited,
Anna had a way of lighting up any room.
“Hi, Anna.”
“You don’t look very excited.”
“I’m scared,” Mimi admitted softly.
“Don’t be! This is fun! I’m sure some really nice guy will be your perfect
match. Let’s go! It’s starting!”
Mimi let herself be pulled along toward the giant screen. They stood near a
tall tree, just as the lights flickered. The first face on the screen was
Mimi’s. Her stomach flipped.
Then — another face appeared beside hers.
“Oh. My. God! I can’t believe it!! It’s Kyle?!”
Mimi blinked. Kyle Thompson. That was a name she knew. They had grown up
together — childhood games, shared arguments, and plenty of awkward teenage
silence. She had never once imagined...
“I don’t know what to think,” Mimi said.
“This is the best you could hope for! Don’t worry,” Anna grinned.
Still, Mimi’s heart wasn’t convinced. Kyle and she were opposites. Different
dreams. Different worlds. Could they really be soulmates?
“I got Luke!” Anna squealed suddenly. “He’s so perfect!”
Mimi smiled for her friend. She was happy — glowing, even. Luke Jacobson was
popular, charming, and Anna had been crushing on him forever.
“You look upset,” Anna said, noticing Mimi’s silence. “Don’t you like Kyle?”
“I do. I mean… as a friend.”
“Well, you’ve got time. That’s why it’s a match, not a marriage. Just... give
it a chance.”
Mimi nodded. What choice did she have?
Later, after the ceremony, she walked alone, trying to make sense of it all.
That’s when she heard her name again.
“Mimi!”
She turned. Kyle was there, running up to her, his smile wide.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
“Really? I guess we missed each other.”
They stood quietly for a moment. He was handsome — tall, athletic, blonde hair,
blue eyes. The kind of guy everyone noticed. But Mimi didn’t feel anything stir
in her heart. Maybe because she had always seen him as something else — a
familiar presence, not a romantic one.
“I know it’s sudden,” Kyle said. “But... I’d like to try. I want to date you,
Mimi. I've liked you for a long time.”
Her heart beat faster — not from joy, but from confusion. Still, she heard
herself say:
“Yes, Kyle. Let’s try.”
The next day, Kyle took her to the movies. He made her laugh with silly
stories, and when they held hands, it wasn’t uncomfortable. It just… wasn’t
magical either.
Later, they sat on her porch. Kyle touched her cheek, turned her face gently
toward him, and kissed her.
Her first kiss.
She should’ve felt fireworks. Instead, she felt... hollow.
Still, she smiled. “I had a great time.”
Maybe love would come later.
Maybe destiny just needed more time.
